This exciting and ambitious partnership project between ISCRE, Suffolk County Council Youth Service and Unity in Diversity CIC was funded by the West Suffolk Local Strategic Partnership. Generation Rootz seeks to work towards the end of racism in a generation. It is intended to support and improve community by developing relationships across generations. We aim to understand young people’s understanding of race and racism and chart how that differs from that of older generations.
The project allows the young people to:
- Learn new media skills
- Understand the issue of race, both politically and locally
- Develop interview skills and hold interviews with people from an older generation
- Develop confidence
The activities will include:
- A day off site working together to build trust & confidence
- Use of drama professionals to introduce the experience of migration
- Media training, including recording and creating DVD
- Interview training
